“It’s a challenge of the extremes!”
In one sentence, that’s how Emmy Award winning Chief Meteorologist Jamie Martin describes what it is like to forecast the weather in Michiana. And, there is nothing else he’d rather be doing.
“I love forecasting for severe weather. After growing up in Florida, I love the snow! It doesn’t matter when or how much. Plus, summers along Lake Michigan – Amazing!”
Jamie caught the “weather bug” when he was a young boy, living in what he calls the “Thunderstorm Capitol of the U.S.” He fondly remembers sitting on his grandparents’ steps, watching water spouts form in the Gulf of Mexico.
Jamie has a B.S. in Meteorology from Florida State University. It’s helped him make sense of the weather across the country, from Texas to Wisconsin.
Most recently, Jamie worked for WHAS in Louisville, Kentucky, where he won an Associated Press award for “Best Meteorologist” in 2010.
When Jamie isn’t bringing you your ABC 57 forecast, he enjoys volunteering and spending time outdoors, surfing, golfing and coaching his kids’ sports teams. He also buys and restores historical homes.
