There was an unusual discovery made inside a Michiana home Tuesday.

A four foot long alligator was found in the basement in a large watering trough at a home on Elkhart's northwest side.

An animal control officer was originally at the home for another call when he spotted the gator.

The gator named, Allie, is at the humane shelter.

The city of Elkhart has an ordinance preventing residents from possessing exotic animals.
