2nd annual Family Fun Carnival for autism awareness to be held April 13

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- The second annual Family Fun Carnival fundraiser for autism awareness will be held this year on April 13 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Menominee Elementary School in Plymouth.

The event is organized by Plymouth High School junior Samantha Zechiel.

The carnival will have carnival games, a bouncy house and food. It will be held in the Menominee cafeteria and gym.

Funds raised through the sales of game tickets and food will benefit Autism Resources of Marshall County (ARMC), a non-profit that improves the lives of all affected by autism through education, advocacy, services, research, and support.

There is no admission fee to the carnival. Tickets for games will be 25-cents each or 5 for $1.

Food and drinks, including hot dogs, pizza, chips, candy, popcorn, cotton candy, soda and juice, will range from 50-cents to $3.

Children and families affected by autism are encouraged to attend the event.

Last year Zechiel came up with the idea to host the carnival and the event raised $800 for ARMC.

This year, Zechiel hopes to raise more money and autism awareness by holding it on a Friday evening at the elementary school.

“My desire to raise awareness began when I was in seventh grade in English class while I was working in a group on a project. My passion to help raise awareness for autism has evolved for raising money to benefit ARMC by planning the Family Fun Carnival. Everyone is invited, there will be plenty to do and see for people of all ages," Zechiel said in a press release.

Zechiel has been planning the carnival along with classmates, teachers, community members and the ARMC.

Zechiel hopes families in Michiana will show their support for people with autism by volunteering or attending the carnival.
