Robot lifeguard patrolling beaches in California

By Amanda J. Seabolt

There is a remote controlled lifeguard patrolling the beaches in California.

A powered tube blasts through the surf and is designed to quickly help active victims.

Interestingly, it's named Emily, after a girl who died in a car accident.

The girl's parents started a pay-it-forward program that the robot's designer signed up for.

Right now, lifeguards are training to use the robot this summer.
