‘Beloved’ principal of Patrick Hamilton Elementary dies following knee surgery

DOWAGIAC, Mich.—The principal of Patrick Hamilton Elementary School passed away on Thursday morning following a knee surgery.

Dowagiac School’s deputy superintendent posted a message to the school's Facebook page informing the community of 'beloved' Principal Heather Nash’s death on December 27.

The message said that tragic news counselors were available on Thursday to talk with students and staff from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Patrick Hamilton Elementary School.

A prayer vigil was held on December 23 while Nash was in critical condition.

A celebration for Nash will be held on Sunday, December 30 at 2 p.m.at Patrick Hamilton Elementary School.

Dearest Dowagiac School Family,

It is with much sadness that we inform you of the death of our beloved Heather Nash principal at Patrick Hamilton, who passed away this morning. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for the entire school district. In order to help us cope with this tragic news counselors are available to talk with students and staff members today Dec. 27, 2018 from 3-6 at Patrick Hamilton Elementary School.
