Benton Harbor Area Schools on lockdown Friday morning

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Benton Harbor Area Schools were on lockdown Friday morning because one of its students allegedly made a threat of violence against an Indiana school.

Law enforcement said there was no direct or implied threat against any Benton Harbor school, school officials placed Benton Harbor High School, Dream Academy and ACA in a perimeter lockdown Friday morning.

“Given the national climate, the Benton Harbor Area Schools understand that incidents like the one today are challenging for our community.  As always, the Benton Harbor Area Schools are committed, first and foremost, to the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” stated Assistant Superintendent Patricia Robinson.

Around 11:30 a.m., the student who allegedly made the threat was located in Fort Wayne and the lockdown was lifted.
