Humane Society kicks off pet weekend extravaganza
The Humane Society of St. Joseph County kicked off its Pet Weekend Mega Garage Sale and Extravaganza on Thursday. The four day event includes reduced adoption fees, a garage sale, plant sale and other special events.
The Humane Society is hoping to adopt over 100 animals over the weekend at its shelter, 2506 Grape Road in Mishawaka.
"We are starting pet weekend here at the Humane Society. It goes from Thursday all the way to Sunday this weekend. We're having reduced adoption fees here at the shelter, so all of our adult dogs are reduced from $200 to $50 this weekend. And then all of our adult cats are also reduced to only $5 for adoption fees," said Genny Carlson, the Executive Director of the Humane Society of St. Joseph County.
The Adoption Center Hours for the weekend are Thursday - Saturday 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The garage sale runs Thursday - Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Sunday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
"As you can see behind me, we have our huge garage sale going on all weekend long as well," Carlson said. "We have pet items, we have household items, kitchen items. We have our annual Pet weekend T-shirt, official t-shirts on sale this weekend, too. So we have a lot going on here at the shelter. Um, we also have Woof Studios coming in here on Saturday. They're doing pet portraits. So if you want to sign up, get some beautiful pictures taken of your pets and your family members, too."
