Indiana State Parks to host Arbor Day events

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Hoosiers can enjoy Arbor Day events at several Indiana State Parks this year.

Painting events, identification hikes and tree giveaways are just a few of the things planned in celebration of Arbor Day.

Chain O’Lakes State Park will be hosting “A is for Arbor Day” beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.

Visitors will be able to learn how to care for plants with each participant receiving a tree to while supplies last.

The historic Stanley Schoolhouse will be hosting hands-on activities, crafts and stories for children of all ages.

Visitors can learn tree identification and hike at Versailles State Park beginning at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

Hikers are encouraged to wear hiking gear and bring along a field guide.

An all-ages painting workshop will be held at Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Those interested can call 812-849-3534 or email Wyatt Williams at [email protected] for reservations.

Brown County State Park will be hosting two events from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Eventgoers will see local award-winning artist Patricia Bartels paint en plein air. Bartels will have an overlook near fire tower where visitors can learn about the painting method.

The annual Spring Wildflower Foray will be taking place in Brown County April 27 to 29. Programs will be held at natural areas and feature spring ephemerals.
