SOUTH BEND, Ind.- LaSalle Park Summer Fest kicks off Saturday and this year the purpose is having people come together.
There will be food vendors, a bouncy house, rock climbing and more for you and your family to enjoy.
This will be the first time LaSalle Park has a pool of organizations coming together to address some of the issues people here face.
The president of the LaSalle Park Neighborhood Association, Henry Davis Jr., says many are concerned about the lead contamination and they hope to address those issues.
Davis says this is an opportunity to recruit more members. The more people the better because that means more will show up to meetings to advocate for this area. He adds, after two summers of testing the contamination this neighborhood has not received results from local government, the EPA or IDEM, but there are plans to renovate the recreational center.
The fest is set to start at noon and lasts until about 5 p.m. According to Davis this summer fest is a way to not only bring attention to these issues but also become a stronger support system for each other.
