ABC 57 is testing your well water

ST. JOESPH COUNTY, Ind. – ABC 57 is working for you! After showing you a map from the St. Joseph County Health Department of contaminants (nitrate) in well water, we decided to run a water test ourselves.

We posted on Facebook Tuesday morning for someone in the northeast corner of St. Joseph County to let us test their well water.
 
This is area on the map that shows the most condensed area of red dots, which symbolize water that has high nitrate levels over the federal safe drinking water standard.
 
The only requirements for our test were that the house runs on well water and uses a septic system because those are the same variables as the county map.
 
Coy Jankowski of Granger was the first to get back to us, and said he’s lived in his home for eight years. He’s never tested his water, until now.
 
"I’ll be anxious to see exactly what I've been drinking for the past eight years,” said Jankowski.
 
So ABC 57 picked up a kit from UL DrinkWell that test well water nationally, and is located in downtown South Bend.
 
We ran the test at Jankowski’s home off Berryknoll Way, by filling up five test bottles with tap water.
 
We dropped the kit back off at the lab, and result should be back within a week.
