Obama lifts restrictions of 'No Child Left Behind' in Indiana

INDIANA – On Thursday, President Obama lifted restrictions of the "No Child Left Behind" for 10 states, including Indiana.

The law requires students be proficient in math and reading by 2014, but the waiver gives schools the flexibility to focus on the growth of each student, instead of whether the child passes or fails!

Teachers said the change will benefit students at all levels!

"It's oh my gosh this kid may coming in reading at first grade reading level, but we can do these things and show maybe they get to like second, end of second and beginning of third and that's more important than necessarily just meeting this standard score,” said Jennifer Repp, a 3rd Grade Teacher.

Governor Daniels applauded the move, saying that the waiver makes for a fairer system.
