Mattawan officer charged following police-involved shooting

MATTAWAN, Mich. -- An officer from the Mattawan Police Department has been charged for the reckless discharge of a firearm following an incident on Nov. 3.

According to WZZM in Grand Rapids, Officer Chelsey Omilian was charged after a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle turned into a shooting.

WZZM reports Omilian allegedly shot at a female suspect, causing injury during the stop.

Michigan State Police say the officer turned herself in Friday and the misdemeanor she is charged with could result up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.

She was released shortly after being charged.
