ELKHART, Ind. – Medflight was on the scene of a crash at County Road 45 and Himebaugh Ave Friday morning, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies say a black BMW was traveling southeast on CR 45 when the driver, 20-year-old Erick Castro, lost control of his vehicle then over-corrected. His BMW spun across the center line into oncoming traffic and crashed into a red Dodge Durango.

The driver of Durango, 30-year-old Caitlynn Picking, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators say Castro was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital in serious condition with severe head, mouth, and nose injuries.
