New program at LMC targets working adults

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Lake Michigan College has begun to offer a free, new program for adults thinking about going back to college, or starting classes for the first time.

According to LMC the program lasts three weeks and is called the College Essentials.

The College Essentials group will meet on LMC's Benton Harbor Campus every Thursday from April 12 until 26.

This event will be three hours long lasting from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. There is no cost but there will be complimentary food, refreshments and participants will receive a tuition voucher upon completion.

College Essentials is meant to address common barriers faced by adults who want to go to school whether they bee tuition costs, choosing the right program or balancing everyday life while pursuing an education.

Personal career and academic advising sessions will be available to attendees in order to help them choose a degree or certified program that can lead to living wage employment or better.

Other resources available include on-campus childcare, tutoring, laptop loans, veteran's services and special scholarships which can make college more affordable and manageable.

The program also provides non-traditional students the chance to network, become familiar with campus and learn more about technology.
