Officials recover a possible drowning victim from the Blue River

HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana Conservation Officers recovered the body of a possible drowning victim from the Blue River on Saturday evening.

Albert “Neal” Barger, 48, was in a canoe when it capsized.

Responders were called to the scene just before 6 p.m. The recovery effort began immediately.

Conservation officers attempted dive efforts and surface searches with no luck. They suspended the search around 11 p.m.

The search resumed Sunday morning around 7 a.m. with sonar scans which allowed divers to pinpoint the victim’s location.

Indiana Conservation Officers encourage everyone to wear a life jacket when around water.
