Palisades power plant to remain operational

COVERT, MI. - The Palisades Power plant in Covert, Michigan will remain operational.

Entergy Corporation announced Thursday morning it plans to operate the plant until the spring of 2022.

Consumers Energy says it and Entergy mutually agreed to continueunder the terms of their plant purchase agreement.

Last week the Michigan Public Service Commission approved the sale of the plant.

This reverses a decision made in December 2016, to close the plant down by October 1, 2018.

In a statement, Consumers Energy says, “After careful review, Consumers Energy and Entergy have mutually agreed that moving ahead under the terms of our current Palisades’ Power Purchase Agreement through 2022 is the best path forward. We appreciate the thoughtful, deliberate approach by all parties during the process, and remain committed to delivering affordable, reliable, safe and clean energy to our customers across Michigan.”
