Pedestrian killed in parking lot, police searching for driver

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Michigan City Police are investigating a hit and run that happened in the parking lot of a local motel.

Police were called to the King's Inn on Kieffer Road at 9:49 a.m. Tuesday after a woman's body was found in the gravel portion of the parking lot.

The investigation revealed a red semi tanker was traveling eastbound thorough the parking lot towards Kieffer Road when it struck the female pedestrian for an unknown reason, reports said.

The semi then left the scene and headed south towards I-94.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday.
