Police: 6-year-old girl accidentally drowns in swimming pool

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A 6-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool Monday afternoon, according to Mishawaka Police.

Police and fire were called to a home in the 2500 block of Riviera Drive around 2:30 p.m.

Witnesses told first responders 6-year-old Piper Dwigans and other children were playing a game called 'torpedo' where they retrieved toys from underwater.

During the game, Piper didn't resurface and she was unresponsive.

Adults pulled Piper out of the water and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Piper was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

An autopsy is not scheduled.
