Police: Man shot at Elkhart motel

ELKHART, Ind. - Elkart Police are investigating a shooting that happened early Monday morning at a hotel in Elkhart.

Police say it happened just before 3:30 a.m. at the DayLite Inn on Cassopolis Street.

"When officers arrived, they found the victim, he was in the parking lot. They were able to talk to him briefly," Sergeant Chris Snyder said.

He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the groin.

"He went to the hospital it didn’t appear to be life threatening. We haven’t gotten any update saying anything has taken a turn for the worse," Snyder said.

According to investigators, the man told them he had been attacked by a woman he knew and three men.

"There was some type of altercation between him and an acquaintance and three other individuals that were inside his room," Snyder said. "There was a white female he was acquainted with and then three other black males that were involved, that’s whose identity we’re still trying to figure out."

The suspects were described as a white female and three black males 25 to 30 years old.

Snyder said this appears to be an isolated incident.

"He knew who the one female acquaintance was, he just wasn't sure who the other three people who were there. We believe this was targeted, but isolated," Snyder said.
