Buzz about Romney's fundraising, plus more to watch for Thursday in politics
There's likely to be some buzz Thursday about Mitt Romney's April fundraising. Romney and the Republican National Committee raised $40.1 million, which came close to matching the $43.6 million President Obama and the Democratic National Committee raised last month, according to The New York Times. It was the first month Romney joined fundraising efforts with the RNC. Romney, meanwhile, will spend a second day in Florida campaigning, and, yes, raising more money. Vice President Joe Biden continues campaigning in Ohio. His focus: The Obama administration's efforts to strengthen the region's manufacturing and auto industries. Closing arguments are scheduled in the John Edwards trial, with the prosecution and defense each being allotted two hours. Deliberations are scheduled to begin Friday. And then there is this: Thousands of realtors plan to gather at the Washington Monument to demonstrate to members of Congress that home ownership still...

Romney raises over $40 million in April, almost matching Obama
Mitt Romney raised just over $40 million for his campaign and the Republican National Committee in April—a pace that nearly matched the $44 million that President Obama raised during the same period. The New York Times was first to report the figure, which includes money raised for Romney's 2012 campaign and the "Romney Victory Fund," a joint fundraising effort with the RNC. A Romney aide confirmed the numbers, which will be formally released later this morning. That's a major increase from the $13 million Romney raised during March, when he was still in the heat of the Republican primary. While President Obama has been raising money for both his campaign and the Democratic National Committee for months, the presumptive Republican nominee merged fundraising operations with the RNC only last month. The move allows him to accept contributions as much as $75,000 a piece from individuals, who contribute not just to the RNC joint account but a series of accounts set...

Obama administration denies role in arming Syrian rebels
President Barack Obama's administration has repeatedly said over the past few months that it won't ship arms to Syria's outgunned opposition, warning that doing so will only escalate the bloody conflict there. But the Washington Post reported Wednesday that the U.S. has been helping to coordinate shipments of "more and better weapons" to the rebels, with Persian Gulf nations picking up the tab. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland denied that Washington was playing any role in arming the rebels. "With regard to any assertions with regard to lethal (aid), we are not involved in that," she said at her daily briefing. "The United States has made a decision to provide nonlethal support to civilian members of the opposition. This is things like medical equipment. This is communications, things to help them, first of all, deal with the humanitarian aspects but also to help them to communicate better so that they can plan and be ready for the period of...
