SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Senator Donnelly visits Oaklawn, discusses bill to aid addiction treatment centers
US Senator Joe Donnelly, D-Ind. was in South Bend Thursday visiting Oaklawn mental health and treatment facility to highlight the need for fully staffed addiction treatment centers.
Facilities that treat substance abuse are facing a shortage of qualified employees.
Donnelly introduced Strengthening the Addiction Treatment Workforce Act which addresses this shortage by making treatment facilities eligible for the National Health Service Corps student loan repayment and forgiveness program, according to Donnelly's website.
"The health care bill that the Senate's discussing right now is actually not a health care bill what it is, is a wealth transfer bill," Donnelly said. "It's not like it's going into a pocket here and a pocket there. That's money that going to Oaklawn to provide for care someone in South Bend or Goshen or Elkhart."
