SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Police detectives are investigating a shooting at Miami Hills Apartments on High Street.
Officers were called to 3534 High Street at approximately 5:21 a.m. Sunday morning where they discovered a female victim.
Officers attempted first aid on the victim until medics arrived.
The 19-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with a wound to the side of her body.
The woman had been shot multiple times with potentially life-threatening injuries, police say.
Evidence in the preliminary investigation suggests the shots may have come from outside a bedroom window when the woman was inside the apartment.
At this time, detectives believe this wasn't a random shooting.
The scene is active and residents are asked to avoid the area.
Detectives with South Bend Police Investigative Bureau will continue their investigation as well as interview potential witnesses.
Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP or South Bend Police Department at 574-235-9201.
