CHICAGO – An Illinois boy is doing his part to help the environment.

“Eco” Erek Hansen has collected more than 4,000 pairs of shoes to be reused.

Since this past spring, he has been holding collection drives all across the Midwest.

He wants folks to realize that one man’s trash could be another’s treasure.

“I think they should open their eyes and look out to the world and see what they can do with their stuff,” said Hansen. “Do something with your stuff beside throw them in the trash because they just end up in a landfill.”

Hansen and his mom drove all the way from Ohio to Chicago to drop the shoes off.
