Teens accused of stealing their grandfather's car and alcohol from Kroger

ELKHART, Ind. -- Three teens are accused of stealing their grandfather's vehicle and alcohol from Kroger early Friday morning, according to Elkhart Police.

Police were called to the 500 block of Moody Street to investigate the theft of a vehicle Friday morning.

The victim told police his granddaughters stole his 2001 Ford.

Officers located the vehicle near the intersection of Delaware Street and Chapman Avenue.

The suspects, two 15-year-old females, and one 14-year-old female, were located in the area.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle and the suspects matched the descriptions of the suspects and the suspect vehicle in the theft of alcohol from the Kroger on W. Hively Avenue around 7:15 a.m.

  • A 15-year-old female was arrested on preliminary charges of auto theft and curfew.
  • A 14-year-old female was arrested on preliminary charges of theft, auto theft, curfew and operator never licensed.
  • A 15-year-old female was arrested on preliminary charges of theft and illegal consumption.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department investigated a similar, but separate incident Friday evening around 9 p.m..

A 14-year-old girl allegedly crashed a vehicle in the 26000 block of CR 52, then battered a police officer, according to reports. She also allegedly consumed alcohol.

The 14-year-old was preliminarily charged with felony battery on a police officer, resisting, disorderly conduct, never receiving a license, and illegal consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Her passenger, a 13-year-old girl, was preliminarily charged with illegal consumption.

Both were released to their parents.
