Woman shot after gun falls to the floor, discharges

ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Police were called to a home on Roys Avenue Saturday just before noon to investigate a shooting with injuries.
Police learned a handgun was dropped, struck the floor and fired.
The bullet struck a 56-year-old woman in the back.
She was transported to Memorial Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury, police said.
The person who dropped the gun was a family member, police said.
The case remains under investigation.
