Police investigating after a body was found in St. Joseph County

The St. Joseph County Police are investigating after a body was found near the city limits of Mishawaka Friday afternoon.

Police say the body was discovered in a wooded area near the intersection of Bittersweet Road and McKinley Highway by an adult couple. 

According to officials, the body is believed to be that of a male, and has likely been there for some time. 

Police also believe the body may be that of an individual that was reported as missing to the St. Joseph County Police earlier this year, but they will not speculate on that information. 

Investigators with the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit are assisting in this investigation. 

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
