National Drug Take Back Day

If you have unused or unwanted prescription drugs that you want to dispose of then today is the day. April 30th is recognized as National Drug Take Back Day and a chance for people to safely dispose of unwanted prescription medication.

The initiative is put on by the by Drug Enforcement Administration. From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday people can stop by South Bend Fire, Mishawaka Police and Fire, along with "TRIAD" (The Right Information and Direction) of St. Joseph County.

The goal of the day is to keep pills from entering ground water as well as keeping them out of the reach of children. Also, it aims to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft by properly disposing drugs.

The program is set up for liquid and pill medications only. Needles that are new or used will not be accepted for disposal. The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.
