Cops and Doughnuts helps reopen local bakery

For 88 years, Dainty Maid Bake Shop in South Bend filled South Michigan Street with some of the sweetest smells in Michiana.

After closing for several months, the smells are back.

Cops & Doughnuts made the grand opening of Cops & Doughnuts Dainty Maid Precinct a possibility after they bought Dainty Maid when no one else would.

A donut shop in Clare, Michigan, open since 1896, was about to close, when 9 members of the Clare Police Department said absolutely not.

They came together to save that historic business in Michigan and now they’ve done it again.

In February, Dainty Maid had to close its doors after the death of its long time owner, David Hab.

With no prospective buyers, the popular shop had to shut down for several months.

From bacon squealers and apple fritters to Amish fried pies, the new store is offering a variety of items and they’re even bringing back a long time favorite, the paczki.
