STOCKTON, Calif. -- The plan was to rob a fast-food restaurant but it went up in smoke when the getaway car disappeared.

Two men walked into a California Burger King, pulled out guns and demanded cash.

Meanwhile an employee snuck out the back, saw the getaway car running, and hid it around the corner.

Police were shocked.

"I haven't heard of any employee actually leaving a business, getting inside the suspect vehicle and trying to hide it," said Detective Joe Silva, California police.

The guys ran out the door and took off for an open field giving officers a chance to catch up with them.

While this incident ended safely, police suggest if you are being robbed give them what they want for your own safety.
