The following contains some graphic descriptions that may be disturbing to some readers.

According to the probable cause affidavit in this case, an officer with the Mishawaka Police Department took a report about an assault/neglect of dependent on June 4.

The victim reported Ryan had been physically assaulting her since at least 2023. The responding officer noted the victim had bruising, swelling, and cuts to her face and eyes.

Police then took her to the hospital for medical attention. Once there, court documents state a forensic nurse conducted a head-to-toe assessment on the victim, which included taking photos of new and old injuries.

The victim was found to have a total of 91 injuries ranging from small injuries to more severe.

The victim's facial injuries prompted medical staff to do a CT scan which found an acute fracture of her right nasal bone and chronic appearing fractures to her left nasal bone. The medical report also noted numerous small laceration injuries and scarring consistent with scissors and pliers.

Medical staff also noted swelling, scarring, and damage to the victim's hands and fingernails. Staff said these included injuries consistent with human bites to the fingers of both hands.

Documents reveal the victim also had further injuries consistent with human bites and significant scarring all over her body.

On June 5, the victim participated in a child forensic interview. The victim told investigators, starting in May 2023, Ryan would bend her fingers back causing pain and swelling.

The victim said the abuse escalated to Ryan striking her with a pair of pliers, pinching her finger joints, and bending her fingernails, causing them to fall off.

In early 2025, the victim said Ryan began hitting her arms, knees, and legs with a hammer, causing bruising, swelling, pain, and cuts.

The victim added that Ryan would bite her fingers if he didn't have a weapon or tool.

Other allegations include Ryan stabbing the victim in the head with pliers, stabbing the victim hundreds of times in the arms and legs with scissors, and placing the victim's fingers, toes, and arm into a table vise, and tightening the vise until the circulation would be cut off. The vise injuries would also cause her fingernails and toenails to come off.

The victim told investigators Ryan had recently strangled her with an extension cord to the point of being nearly unconscious. She added that Ryan has also been punching her in the head, face, and body.

On June 4 is when the victim said Ryan punched her in the nose. Ryan allegedly told the victim he was doing these acts to her to "correct her behavior" and it was "for her own good."

The victim stated Steffanie was present during the abuse but would be downstairs or sleeping while it occurred.

The victim said she told Steffanie about the abuse in May, but she never called the police or sought medical attention for her injuries. The victim added that Steffanie told her if she went outside with visible injuries that the Department of Child Services would take her away.
