All aboard, but it's going to cost you!

The days of waiting for the public school bus to come get you for class are coming to an end, sorta.

color:black">For kids in Franklin Township, Indiana they can still jump on the bus, but it is going to cost their parents…big time! According to Indiana NewsCenter the district has stopped offering school bus transportation for free. It will now cost each child a whopping $475.00 a year to catch a ride to school.

color:black">I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of charging parents nearly $500 bucks a kid to get them to a public school? I understand times are tough—I think we are all feeling it. But to charge this kind of money for transportation just seems unrealistic to me. Unrealistic too for the hundreds of parents today that were stuck in a massive traffic jam outside the school for the first day of school today. One parent described the traffic jam as bad as trying to leave after a music concert. A sea of cars stretched as far as you could see.

color:black">So what is the answer? I’m not really sure. Are school administrators going to allow these kids to be late to school every day because the traffic is insane? Are parents going to risk being late for work because they are waiting 20-30 minutes in a single line of traffic just to get their kids to the front door of the school? Apparently, in response to the traffic jam those administrators simply said it’s not too late for the parents to pay for the bus ride.

color:black">This is just another obstacle that makes it a challenge for our kids to get a good education in the public sector.

color:black">What’s next a $1 fee for  pencil and .50 cent fee for each sheet of paper?

color:black">Ridiculous!
