Authorities investigating a hazmat situation in Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind. – Our ABC 57 affiliate RTV6 out of Indianapolis is reporting a hazmat situation in Kokomo.

Kokomo police are investigating a hazmat situation on the north side of the city that sent at least nine officers to the hospital.

Officers said the drug task force was executing a search warrant in the 1800 block of N. Wabash Street in reference to suspected drug activity.

Once inside the home, officers were exposed to an unknown chemical agent, causing eight officers to be transported to St. Vincent hospital in Kokomo. One additional officer was also treated.

Call 6 Investigates said all officers were alert and walking at the hospital.

Two adults inside the home were transported to Community Howard Hospital after being exposed to the agent.

Reilley Cessna, who lives just a short distance away, told RTV6 she saw ambulances taking patients away from the scene.

According to Cessna, Kokomo police were continuing to respond to the scene as of 9 p.m.
