Two injured in South Bend house fire

NOW: Two injured in South Bend house fire

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Fire Department was called just before 5 am on Friday morning for a residential fire at Brighton Place and Patterson Drive.

15 units first arrived on scene, and officials say the fire came under control in five minutes. Two adults, one man and one woman, were taken to the hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. The extent of those injuries are unknown at this time.

“All I could see was flames, just tons of them. And they were shooting up into the sky. And not more than a couple seconds after there was a big boom which I figured was probably the gas tank on one of the cars exploding," neighbor Jim Hackett said.

Currently, the cause is unknown. This is an ongoing investigation.
