Deadline for Indiana state park deer hunts approaches

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (AP) — The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the application deadline is drawing near for hunters to participate in deer reduction hunts at 19 state properties in November.

It says applications must be received by Aug. 20.

Properties where hunting is allowed with firearms only are the following state parks: Brown County, Chain O'Lakes, Harmonie, Indiana Dunes, Lincoln, Ouabache, Potato Creek, Prophetstown, Shades, Shakamak, Summit Lake, Tippecanoe River, Turkey Run, Versailles, and Whitewater Memorial , as well as Cave River Valley Natural Area.

Properties where only archery hunting is allowed Clifty Falls and Fort Harrison state parks, and Trine State Recreation Area.

The hunt dates are Nov. 12-13 and Nov. 26-27.

Applications are provided online .

Successful applicants are allowed to take up to three deer, but only one can be antlered.
