CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (AP) — Police in the Chicago suburb of Crystal Lake say an FBI team that specializes in missing children is helping them search for a 5-year-old boy.

Crystal Lake police say Andrew "AJ" Freund's parents last saw him about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Police say Andrew's parents reported him missing when they woke up Thursday and couldn't find him in their home.

Crystal Lake police say they're still investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy's disappearance. They say they didn't issue an alert because law enforcement couldn't confirm the boy was abducted.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Tom Kotlowski told The (Crystal Lake) Northwest Herald that more police, K-9 units and search-and-rescue resources have been requested.

Police are asking for the public's help with any tips or information in the case.
