MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- This week, Notre Dame wide receiver Kevin Stepherson was suspended indefinitely following an arrest for shoplifting.

ABC57 has since confirmed that he had also been charged with marijuana possession just one day earlier.

Court records show Stepherson was pulled over on Thursday, Dec. 14, and as a result of that traffic stop, he was charged with infractions for speeding and driving without a valid driver's license. He also received a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession.

Those charges were formally filed on Friday, Dec. 23.

They come on the heels of Stepherson's indefinite suspension, which was the result of his arrest at University Park Mall, one day after the traffic stop in Marshall County.

He was also part of a group of Irish players arrested in Fulton County in August 2016. He was put on probation for a marijuana possession in that instance, but did not receive a suspension in the 2016 football season. Stepherson did, however, miss the first half of 2017 for an undisclosed reason.

When head coach Brian Kelly met with media to discuss this week's suspension, prior to news of the marijuana charge, he made it clear that Stepherson's status was still being evaluated.

"They're teenagers," he said on Thursday. "I don't go into this business expecting our kids to be perfect. I expect our kids to make good choices and when they don't they've got to be held accountable. A poor choice and it's not his first. We've got to evaluate all of those things before I make a final decision on his status here within the program."

Notre Dame Football was contacted, but has no further statement regarding the new charges filed against Stepherson.

He is one of three players suspended for the Citrus Bowl against LSU.

Running back CJ Holmes was also suspended indefinitely, along with Stepherson for the shoplifting incident. Tight End Alize Mack will also miss the game on New Year's Day, due to what the program has called an internal issue.
