Gov. Braun says Secretary of Education reviewing educators' statements 'celebrating or inciting political violence'

Gov. Mike Braun

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced via Facebook that the Secretary of Education has the authority to suspend or revoke a license for misconduct, adding the office will review all reported statements of K-12 teachers and administrators who've allegedly made statements to "celebrate or incite political violence."

Braun stated teachers play a critical role in shaping our youth and are held to a higher standard. Braun said most educators in the state live up to that standard, but in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, he says there have been some "terrible things" shared on social media by some.

Braun stated, "While we must protect the First Amendment, calls for political violence are not freedom of speech and should not be tolerated."

The governor added disagreements over issues shouldn't end in tragedy.
