SOUTH BEND, Ind. --Indiana State Police confirms shots fired involving Indiana State Excise Police Officer near Rockne Drive and Madison Street.
Indiana State Police reports that a Indiana State Excise Police Officer was working on a special detail with a convenience store.
The officer followed a suspicious 1990's-early 2000's Silver Honda Civic.
The suspect then stopped, got out of his car at the intersection of Jacob and Rockne, and fired a the officer. The officer returned fire.
Suspect fled on foot, circled back, then fled in car. The suspect is currently on the loose, there is no information on whether the suspect is injured but is considered a threat to the community.
The officer in the shooting was not hit, but is currently in the hospital.
The scene is currently active with several Indiana State Police cars on sight.
