Indianapolis police investigate death of baby left in SUV

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis police are investigating the death of a baby who was left in a vehicle on a hot day.

Police say officers and medics who were called to an auto parts store Saturday on the city's east side found the child unresponsive inside a sport-utility vehicle.

The child was pronounced dead at Riley Children's Hospital.

The Indianapolis Star reports that the baby was believed to be with the mother while another person went inside the store, but police would not say where the mother was when the call for help was placed or who made that call.

Temperatures were in the middle 80s when the call was placed.

A coroner will do an autopsy to determine the baby's cause of death. Police have not disclosed the child's age or gender.
