Patrick Reed wins first career major, leaves Augusta with coveted green jacket
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- After a historic and nailbitter of a weekend, Patrick Reed is now the reigning Masters champion.
Former champion Sergio Garcia placed the iconic green jacket on Reed's shoulders shortly after he sealed his historic win with a par putt on hole 18.
Reed was far from the favorite however, and he knew it. Late charges on Sunday's final round from both Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler gave Reed something to be nervous about, yet he kept pushing.
Spieth posted one of the greatest rounds in Masters history on Sunday, posting a 64 on the final round after chipping a tree on his tee off on hole 18. Had he not hit the trees he might have been standing where Reed was at the end.
Though the fight was close, Reed could not miss when it mattered, his putter seemingly guided to the hole.
It was all respect from his counterparts at the end of the day, and with his first major win Patrick Reed will go home with the coveted green jacket and memories of a lifetime.
