Porter County Sheriff Deputy involved in three car pile up

SOUTH HAVEN, Ind. – A Porter County Sheriff Deputy was involved in three car crash Sunday afternoon.

According to officials the incident occurred around 4:30 this afternoon.

Indiana State Trooper Justin Hansen’s initial investigation revealed that Lawrence Caronch, 20 of Vaparaiso, Indiana was north bound when he saw something in the road and stopped to avoid hitting in.

Trooper Hansen stated that Edward Allande, 80 of Valparaiso, was behind Caronch’s 1995 Jeep Cherokee when he stopped his 2017 Subaru Outback.

With both drivers in front of him, Porter County Sheriff Deputy Tim Bell, 37, did not see that Allande had stopped his vehicle, and hit him with his fully marked 2015 Ford Explorer, causing all vehicles to collide with one another.

According to Hansen, Allande had to be extricated from his vehicle, and all drivers were then taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso.

Caronch and Bell were treated and released, but officials say Allande was taken by ambulance to Rush Hospital in Chicago with a head injury.
