South Bend Cubs accepting scholarship applications from regional athletes

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Cubs announced they will be accepting applications for college scholarships for regional baseball and softball players.

Applications will be accepted until May 31.

Students that live in one of the 11 counties that surround Four Winds Field in downtown South Bend can apply for the scholarships.

The scholarships are worth $5,000 each. Eligibility for the financial aid award can be found on the 1st Source Bank Performance Center website.

According to Andrew Berlin, Chairman and Owner of the South Bend Cubs, “They’re not just for current athletes who will go on to play in college. They’re for any high school senior athlete who intends to continue his or her education full time after high school."

The South Bend Cubs awarded five scholarships in 2017 to high schoolers from Mishawaka, South Bend, Walkerton, and LaPorte, Indiana. Another scholarship was awarded to a student from Buchanan. Two of the students were softball players, three were baseball players.
