Woman gets 30 years for attacking ex-husband with hammer

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — A judge has sentenced an Indiana woman to 30 years in prison for placing a plastic bag over her ex-husband's head and beating him with a hammer.

Forty-one-year-old Shannon D. Labrosse of Fort Wayne was sentenced Friday. She pleaded guilty to attempted murder for the February 2017 attack on Thomas Labrosse, who has multiple sclerosis. He suffered broken ribs, cuts to his head and other injuries when attacked while sitting in a recliner at his home.

During the Friday sentencing hearing in Allen Superior Court, Shannon Labrosse was asked if she had anything she wanted to say. She turned to her ex-husband in the courtroom and said, "Tom, I'm sorry."

She earlier pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery for striking him repeatedly with a hammer in 2011 when they were still married.
