The Goshen Center for Cancer Care is the first in Indiana to offer a new robotic tool for early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.
They have invested in a Galaxy System Robotic Bronchoscopy. The procedure already utilizes a camera and video screen that lets doctors view the airways and take a small tissue sample.
The robot provides better access to small nodules located in difficult-to-reach areas of the lungs and enables doctors to guide and control a deeper look into the lungs.
Some of the advantages that the patient benefits from the Bronchoscopy are earlier diagnosis and the start of treatment, lower risk complications, reduced exposure to radiation and faster recovery time.
According to Dr. Bostaji, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the state of Indiana. Dr. Sammy Bostaji says being able to offer this care to Michiana is important.
“It’s very special because we’re able to provide patients with the benefit of having those procedures done in Goshen rather than to travel to other remote distances like to Chicago or other facilities who can provide these services. We are happy to provide this at Goshen Cancer Center,” Bostaji said.
