MISHAWAKA, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Education is awarding Grissom Middle School the IDOE Educational Excellence Award for Excellence in Academic Gains.

The award also comes with a grant worth up to $177,000.

The Excellence in Academic Gains Award recognizes schools that have made the most progress improving achievement for all students.

IDOE says the recipient school must demonstrate one or more of the following achievements:

  • increased academic achievement for students indicated by ILEARN English/language and arts/mathematics assessment results
  • prioritization of initiatives focused on accelerating learning
  • implementation of progress monitoring and evidence-based practices for students in need of extra support

Winning schools must use the grant funds, as indicated by the IDOE, to continue the work the school was doing to earn the recognition.

They may also choose to spend the money on projects related to any of the Educational Excellence Awards categories.

Grissom Middle School will be recognized at the 3rd Annual Educational Excellence Awards Gala in Indianapolis on September 6.

A Penn-Harris-Madison school previously earned an IDOE Educational Excellence award in the fall of 2023, when Penn High School was recognized with the Excellence in College Readiness Award and received a $250,000 grant.
