Multi-vehicle crash in Elkhart sends one to the hospital Tuesday afternoon

ABC 57

ELKHART, Ind. -- A multi-vehicle crash happened in Elkhart on Tuesday afternoon in the area of John Weaver Parkway and Nappanee Street around 3:36 p.m.

Authorities say the initial investigation indicates that a silver Chevrolet Cruze was traveling south on Nappanee Street when it attempted to make a right turn onto John Weaver Parkway and swerved to miss an unknown vehicle that was simultaneously making a left hand turn onto the same street.

"The silver Cruze went into oncoming traffic and struck a Jeep Compass. The crash caused the Jeep to push back into a white Chevrolet Cruze," police said. "The silver Cruze and Jeep sustained heavy front-end damage. The white Cruze sustained slight damage to the front bumper."

The driver of the silver Cruze was a 35-year-old male. Also in the car was a 26-year-old woman, and a two-year-old.

Police say the woman was checked by medics and taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep was a 16-year-old girl who had complaints of pain but refused further medical treatment.

The driver of the white Cruze was a 49-year-old man who did not complain of pain or injuries.

This case remains under investigation.
