Plymouth community hosts 5K in the fight against ALS

NOW: Plymouth community hosts 5K in the fight against ALS

PLYMOUTH, Ind. – The Plymouth community rallied together Sunday to host 'Steps for Stegs', a 5K walk/run and fun-run to raise money for the Stegelmann family.

Haley Stegelmann, a teacher and swim coach at Plymouth High School, and her husband, Nathan, have been married for just over one year now.

In November, Nathan was diagnosed with ALS, turning the family's lives upside down.

To show support, community members and school leaders organized 'Steps for Stegs' to raise money for the family.

The 5K walk/run took more than 900 participants from the Rockpile at Plymouth High School to nearby Centennial Park and back.

While organizers expected a big turnout, they were nonetheless surprised by the more than 1,000 people who attended from Plymouth and beyond.
