BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - Multiple fire departments in and around Benton Harbor responded to a fire around 2:53 p.m. Sunday, at the abandoned Morton School on North Hull Avenue.
Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety (BHDPS) reports that on arrival heavy smoke was coming from the north side of the school.
Firefighters found the fire coming from a classroom with fire going into the roof.
Officials say the roof collapsed and units began aiming their aerial water streams and Class A Foam at the roof fire.
According to officials, the northwest part of the school has been condemned and will need to be torn down due to the roof collapsing.
The fire was under control in about 40 minutes.
Fire officials say the fire is under investigation and there are indications the fire was intentionally set.
Anyone with any information on this fire should contact the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety at 269-443-1027.
