South Bend launches Upskill SB Summer application period

City of South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend is now accepting applications for the next class of Upskill SB participants. The program helps those on the job market gain industry-standard job certifications and offers training and exam reimbursements to help job seekers reach new career goals.

“Alongside other local resources like Next Path and Next Level Jobs, there are so many opportunities for residents to upskill in their jobs and careers,” said Madi Rogers, Director of Civic Innovation. “We’re excited to continue the Upskill SB program that has enrolled nearly 100 participants since its inception.”

The program is set to accept up to 25 South Bend residents and will "assist in identifying training and certifications that best fit each participant’s career interests and goals," according to city officials.

Participants in the program can choose to pursue certification in a wide variety of fields including cloud computing, cybersecurity, project management, lactation counseling, doula training, and solar technologies.

"Upskill SB will reimburse the full exam costs and at least 50% of any training costs," city officials said.

There will also be additional financial aid available to those who qualifying, and those who don't have access to a computer or the internet may be eligible to borrow equipment from the program.

The courses are remote and done at the student's own pace, making the certifications a great opportunity for people with non-traditional schedules or backgrounds.

The only requirement for applicants is that they hold a high school diploma or GED and must live or work in South Bend for traditional courses.

The application process will remain open until the 25 spots are filled or until June 14.
