Fog exits, but storms could enter Friday evening
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The race is on for the South Bend Mayoral seat today.
In the mayoral race is incumbent James Mueller and 2nd District Common Councilman, Henry Davis Jr., both democrats.
Mueller has been mayor since 2020. He says his top priority will always be public safety. During his time in office, the South Bend Police Department has added 76 new officers, 1/3 of which are women or people of color.
He also believes in investments into children and infrastructure that will benefit the entire community.
When it comes to gun violence and crime, Mueller says he will continue advocating for gun measures at the state and federal levels, and keep working with residents to create a policing roadmap.
Henry Davis Jr. Is looking to move up to the mayoral seat as well and wants everyone to have a say in government.
He believes the city should consider turning vacant properties into housing opportunities for the underserved community.
Davis Jr. Also says it’s important to make gun safes more accessible and to start a new department within SBPD to help track and secure illegal guns on the streets.
Polls are open in Indiana until 6pm tonight.
